i want to die on a rainy day
68
i want to die on a rainy day.
when the river overflows, so
shall my life. trickling down
the moistened earth to find
home among cocooned seeds.
i want to die on a rainy day.
on a wednesday, middle of
the week. only the dogs will
sense the rapture and moving
on will not be an affair even
if i roam the streets naked.
i want to die on a rainy day.
lying down on a bench under
a tree in a park somewhere.
while strangers grapple with
umbrellas, my final breath
shall find the greying clouds
past dreamcatching leaves.
i want to die on a rainy day.
and i will play the guitar as
i ebb. certainly not sunshine
on my shoulders. definitely.
(stale cigarettes, anyone?)

I liked it too Chris but I'm not sure why? Somehow you've made a rainy Wednesday sound like a good day. I do like 'past dreamcatching leaves'. Russ
this is really quite amazing. Up and shared. I also share your sentiment
I mean, there really isnt anything I can say that hasn't already been said. Other than your poems would make the deepest, most wonderful songs too. You're a true talent my friend.
OH dear..but that rain will wash away the staleness the life can bring from chemical smokes...Love this almost as much as you...:O) Hugs G-Ma
How did you format your poem? voted up and beautiful...
lovely--so glad I found this.

I love it! Happy New Year :)
beautiful! I love the beauty of a grey, rainy Wednesday.. your word choices are simply perfect... and I will play the guitar as I ebb.. sublime.
Cris - what can one say except it's great to read your amazing stuff here again!
How wonderful this sounded, though it is so unusual for me. I am sending this to Nellieanna for her opinion.
You are such a talented young man :-)
Absolutely amazing, Cris. Please keeping writing more.
Lovely Chris. And how strange; I have just noticed that De Greek has sent this to Nellieanna for her opinion... I sent 'Foreplay' to Nellieanna because I was so impressed by it.
Honoured to follow you, Chris.
yes i agree death should be an act of peace and what better way to die than when everything around us is one with nature. the beauty of the rains is that everything around is then one- and to me is at peace and getting satiated.tell me when you are planning to die. maybe we can die together and meet on the way up and at long last be free of all bondage.
good one chris-
Cris, i want to die on a rainy day, too, because i'm an "ame onna" but i want to be buried on a sunny day..
Almost as amazing as to receive recommendations from two highly respected fellow-Hubbers to come read your poem, is your poem and the imagery of it!! I am quite honored to be directed here! Thank you.
I can't know what prompted you to write of death on any kind of day but it would be ideal to make that journey on a day (or night) of one's own choice and design. If it were too ideal, though, it might prompt one to postpone the big event and just enjoy its goodness! Leave it to me to reconsider living!
I'm so visual, I literally envisioned your images, especially lying on a park bench under a tree, which would deflect raindrops (let's hope the birds are somewhere else staying dry!!) and the folks hurry by trying to get up their umbrellas as the rain starts and if a wind accompanies the rain, having to use both hands to balance them above their heads. If that's the scene, playing the guitar will be an odd touch!
If you roam the streets naked? Why? Unfinished business? The rain on a Wednesday came ahead of schedule?
Cris, Cris - - I'm bowled over. Too bad you hadn't written this in time for the Patron of the Arts contest! It's so unique and heart-grabbing. This poem is a picture needing to be painted! In fact, there should be a short-silent video made of the entire poem. Can't you just see it?
It could be published as your obituary. Sigh. Hope that's not for a LONG, long time!
I am so glad you read this and loved it Nellieanna.
An engaging and very gifted poet, I think you will agree.
Ame (rain) Onna (girl)" is a Japanese word. I'm very much aware tho' that I'm past that "girl" term, hehehe..
Yes - it is a collection, isn't it?
Ian - I definitely do agree that he is a gifted poet. Very unique.
Sir Cris, its only Tuesday here in Manila, and its not even raining yet..why do you have to go NOW? can't you wait until the rainy days? or better yet, cant you not leave us yet? we love you so much! I LOVE YOU! i haven't had the chance to thank you for the opportunity that you have given me..please, tell me this is not true..tell me you didn't go yet.. :(
Cris, always, always beautiful. What a bright light and talent you are in the world. Thanks for all of it. Thanks for being my friend.
I just have to say that it was raining here today. You will be missed.
Awww this is so sad and he's so young. This is a beautiful poem and hopefully what is being said isn't true but if it is the poetry is beautiful and poignant.
This cannot be true. Cris please tell me that it isn't true. It seemed like yesterday we were having fun in the forums. I am in shock. I am sad. I can't believe it. You will be missed. :(

I read about Cris's passing in the forum. This poem says it all...Cris knew the end was near. He will be missed. My condolences to his family. Rest in piece.
Rest In Peace Cris...It snowed bigtime here today...very unusual for this place...:O( Hugs G-Ma
It was like you knew Cris.... :(
Cris A: You're in heaven now. Thank you for walking and loving and writing among us for awhile. You brought life and peace. Be at rest, brother.
Cris was too young to write about a dying wish (33 years old), so his spirit knew he was leaving. Thank you my friend for gracing all of us with your presence. Rest in peace.
I hope that the tears shed for your passing provided you with the vehicle you sought Cris. Enjoy the Light Poet.
Makes me wonder why I didn't read your poems when I had the chance...
How very profound. We will all miss you Cris.
how strange he started to put these back up, he was reaching out to us all on here and on facebook..... Love You Cris
Good bye Cris, you will be missed.
