portraits: a league of extraordinary gentlemen hubbers
66
Every man's work, whether it be literature or music or pictures or architecture or anything else, is always a portrait of himself.
Samuel Butler (1835 - 1902)
British writer, painter, and musician.
My first portraits hub featuring women hubbers was screaming sequel even before it was posted. And any second thought of giving in to theĀ demand was quashed by its success and popularity. And so without further ado, and in the spirit of gender equality and hublove, here are the gentlemen hubbers who are ready and willing to go under the spotlight for that starturn - if they haven't already.
.
Winsome
"Got my love of people from the gracious ones in Texas, my love for the mountains and biking them from California, my joy of writing from the big orange-covered biographies in the 4th grade, my love of relationships from the giving ones I've known and the thrill of creating from the Creator who is easily seen when you know how to look."
.
Tom Rubenoff
"HubPages is like your home town. It's a place to have fun, to write, and to communicate. It is a place to laugh and to sympathize, play and work."
.
Artisan Walker
"So, basically, I'm a musician (drummer) who - by choice and craving stability - became a regular guy, who then - not by choice - is becoming something different yet again. My interests, at the moment, are simple; I'm an unapologetic media/input junkie. I cannot eat unless I'm reading and watching TV. I work-out regularly with resistance training, and walk everywhere I go."
.
lxxy
"Much has changed since I first appeared, and this new season we find ourselves in will treat you to glimpses of events that have occured. In some place and some time, revolving around myself and the continuing mission to provide understanding and peace to those I commune and converse with."
.
Christoph Reilly
"Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. I call my ivy-draped house Idlewild, an Irish-like cottage on Dead Creek. Like the creek, my thoughts and philosophies have more tangents than a tangerine, so I put 'em on paper. Actor, Writer, Producer, Singer, Musician, Songwriter, a man of many hats but none of them fit just right. I'd tell you what I'll be writing about but I don't know myself. I hope it's sometimes informative, often funny, and always interesting. No theme here and no premise. Just Random Ramblings From Idlewild."
.
Ralph Deeds
"I live in the Midwest and sail on the Great Lakes. My hobbies are sailing, photography, public policy issues and politics. [and HubPages!] I've worked in the automobile industry, for the National Labor Relations Board in Washington, and for the Unemployment Compensation appeals board in Lansing, Michigan. Currently, I work part-time representing unemployment compensation claimants in appeal hearings before administrative law judges. I'm married with three grown children. I'm a card carrying Democrat."
.
tony0724
"You know that guy who would show up at your kegger party and would not leave? Well I am kinda similar too that. Except I write hubs here at hubpages and refuse to go away (That has always been one of my endearing qualities!) I have an Interest In so many things. I like politics, humor. Examining the spiritual side of life as I am one of those pesky people who believe In God and JC."
.
Shadesbreath
"I am a fantasy, fiction and science fiction writer abusing my creativity for the purpose of making money too. Prostituting my art is a means of feeding the herd of children I made, but even in that I cling to the basic tenets of truth, care, and craft--what you write and how you write it matters."
.
dohn121
"I'm proud to say that I am a writer who was born in Vientiane, Laos and raised in Westchester, NY and have been writing now for over twenty years. I feed off of feedback and give feedback so if you'd like, I'd be more than willing to help any way I can. Keep on writing and keep on hubbing!"
.
Sufidreamer
Thoroughly disillusioned with the corporate backstabbing and stress, Sufidreamer and his partner, Denny, decided to take a sideways step out of the system. They moved to the beautiful Peloponnese, bought a house in the mountains, and continue to live the simple life. Here, amongst the unique wildlife and wonderful people, he seeks inspiration from the muses. Sufidreamer's days are spent writing, enjoying Greek food and Ouzo, and attempting to murder the Greek language.
.
imadork
"My bio got deleted somehow and I'm too lazy to write another one. Just read my hubs. If you want to know more about me go to my Facebook profile."
.
B.T. Evilpants
"Ha! If you were sent here from asktheuniverse.com, you must be in shock to learn that the master of the universe is a jackalope!
Well, my original goal was world domination, but I was in the right place at the right time, and, well, here we are!"

MAGNIFICENT!! I love it!! Your man picks are awesome, and the job you've done on the pictures is incredible! You're a true genius Cris. Your work takes my breath away. Honestly. :)
Note: There's an underestimated hubber amongst us...randslam...marvelous writer.
I knew most of the female hubbers on the previous hub, but most of these are unknown to me, though I have seen them on the forums. Well at least now I can check out what you consider the extraordinare in men :)
You matched me where the women were concerned, so you must be right here too.
I totally agree with your choice of Christoph...he is the only one I know on this list. :)
The joy of discovering fresh talent. aaaah...
What great portraits. I love these Hubs of yours. Thanks.
Thanks for putting so much work into this. I enjoyed my portrait (modern impressionism?) but loved Shadesbreath's a bit more, although none of them have any flaws.
You continue to impress and amaze, making us question what could possibly come next.
Really nice Cris. You are so talented.....and what a tribute to the boys
how absolutely gorgeous!! now I have some new boyfriends! ;)
these hubs are such a beautiful way to showcase some of HP's amazing writers. thank you for giving us this beautiful hub.
Chris, what an amazing job you did on the photos. I am honored to be in the same gallery as these extraordinary gentlemen of which you are the unseen star. =:)
I love the way you use photoshop to create each writers personality. I know we are supposed to be all about the words being writers and all, but sometimes a picture paints a thousand!
Get some sleep Cris!
Love the new darker version of me. ;)
It's awesome that you put some T&A behind me! My in-depth bio speaks volumes!
It was nice meeting a few hubber men I hadn't met, and seeing the ones I have! What a group of cool men! You brought out I think the best in them. I chuckled and Iamadork's bio, that's the kind of the energy I get from him, he says it like it is. LOL.
came back to look at the pix. I really must learn to photoshop, though you are more of an artist in the way you see things.
So this is what you've been doing, Chris! Been wondering where you'd vanished! You do know we're running out of adjectives to describe your obvious talent? I'm sure the gentlemen featured here are delighted with how you've presented them! :)
...and again, awesome. ;)
Cris I love the work you did here. I promise I am gonna get a digital camera with an updated photo. But I still look the same. Thank you for the shout out my Brother !
Hi Cris,
It seems you have a magic photoshop wand! Anything you touch
turns to an artistic masterpiece. Great hub, Cris!
Well my boat floater is not among these. Is it just me, or is Deeds looking directly into my soul?
Wow, its just magical how you can paint feelings, personalities, and stories without the use of so many words. A wonderful gift - and how lucky are we to have you!
I agree with Randy, it seems as though Deeds is looking straight thoughus.
AND... as for Ron..
Umm, I somehow pictured Ron in overalls, I don't know why - hahaha :D
I am sure you are spot on with all of these gentlemen, the ones I have had the opportunity to get to know are so right on in these creations.
Hmm, I am disappointed that you have not included yourself.. SuCh A TeAsE LOLzzz
Fantastic and the perfect companion/sequel/follow-up from the women hubbers in monochrome. I love (yet again) the way in which you've created a personal backdrop for each hubber, dependant upon who they are, what they are - all so perfect.
Love sufi's, that picture is so him! lxxy too, and imadork *lawls* him to a tee! Got himself some cute eye candy there ;)
Absolutely fabulous Cris, as always!!
P.S - alas I no longer smoke, croak or choke :( I quit and boy I sure miss them. Smoke a harsh one for me :):)
good!
Clever concept and wonderful photography!
You have listed some BRILLIANT writers here Cris, in a way that only you can. Well done! :D
Ah,and tonymac04 would have been nice to see here, as he belongs in the group containing Shadesbreath and Christoph Reilly :-))
AHHHH! I'm so late coming to read this! Thanks again Cris! You always manage to raise the bar just a bit higher. Reading this just made me realize that there are a more Hubbers here that I still need to meet (just 2) but I'll be sure to remedy that.
You did a fantastic job capturing the nature in all of us. Hats off to you.
Thank you so much for the tribute, the diplomacy, and especially, the friendship ;) You are a true friend.
Dohn
:) as she gets to comment under dohn :) i have said it and i will say it again CrisA . .you are ultra amazing:) You have have that "it" that one can not define (and of course everyone wants). From the bottom of my ? . . i thank you for sharing this. Rated upwards and awesome, beautiful and useful.
p.s. can you just add that dohn 'bleeds blue' ;)
Hey, I clean up well! Great photoshop work, Cris, and it's an honor to be included.
Dude, I installed Adobe Creative Suite 4 and am just starting to learn about it in school. As I'm reading the book and watching tutorial videos I'm constantly going, "Oh my God!" and "Holy shit!"
It's just amazing software.
Thank you, Cris. I am honored.
I certainly didn't mind the T&A but I like the new background better. Very cool!
Wow awesome Photoshop techniques, you should be in the Hubpages Elite!
Wow! How on earth did you manage to make it look as good as the one on women?? :D
Truly amazing Cris - and thanks for introducing me to some male hubbers who I've never read!
As always, Cris, you have impeccable taste. Great choices! (Probably because many are my faves...) Love what you did with the photos too! ;D
Nice guys
I came looking for man-candy - and got it! Maybe not the nice abs pics I like so much, but still this is awesome man-candy - Once again, cris - you rule!
Handsome men.. wonderful writers all! Great choices Cris! Hugs!
Wow! You found me in my natural habitat. This may be the only picture if me that I actually like! You're a real magician, Cris!
What a great hub on the men around here! This is just as great as the one you did for the women! I just realize that I only know a few of the men you cited here. I have to remedy that.
Thanks very much for introducing us to these extraordinary hubbers Cris!
You really have to teach me photoshop! The portraits are amazing! When can I start my lessons?
Nicely done!!
Great work, Cris - I love impressionism, so you got the picture down to a tee. Love the one of Ron, too - he has a great smile!
With this League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, we should be able to cause mayhem somewhere, and maybe save the world along the way.
Thanks for that - beautiful work from a master at his craft :)
Sufidreamer just gave me the most incredible vision! And at 5:30 am! I'm seeing these men taking over the world...causing mahem and destruction, breaking women's hearts in every country, and writing phrases of their works on every building they pass! All with B.T. Evilpants leading the way with his sword and antlers! :)
Hey young-un, another great job. Now you have introduced me to some interesting hubber's that I was not aware of before---humm!!!I wonder if I can harasses them like I do you????
These are truly fascinating and compelling photos. Although I know some of these men, I don't know all, and now I want to get to know the rest. Too many thumbs up to count!
Hey, who's the guy between me and Einstein?
Cris: Great job, and it's an honor to be included in such erudite company! You've done a great job with the pics, but we are accustomed to you doing a great job at everything you do, so no surprise there. Just pure pleasure. I bow to the Master!
I was trying to make a "how good looking am I" joke, but it failed (I wrote that message on my blackberry while driving up the PCH, so that's what you get, glaring omissions of key points of humor). LOL. I knew who that was. I LOVE it. My wife did too. Great job on these.
Cris you forgot the comment box on your latest poem- the pictures are just beautiful and matches the poem so well.
How much of time do you need to spend to make each of those pix? I know you said it takes time...but generally, how much on an avg?
Interesting hub and I will have to check out these guys. I know a few already. Cheers and thank you.
Great idea and great hubbers. There for a moment I thought I saw a jackalope.
Omg excellence at its best and I have to say there are some hunks in there as well. Oh Cris your talent is just amazing, I am in awe.
And in love...... :)
Cris-YOU should be included here-no modesty allowed!
Good Idea, results looked great
