when i can't write i turn to photoshop and make wallpapers for you

writer's block, oh, writer's block
to you i do not give a fuc*
you make my hub life suck
how else should I make a buck?
But I digress. This is not about writer's block. Many hubbers have plumbed the issue already so I choose to stay away from it lest I become friends with it. Anyway, I have been having a hard time starting on a new hub for reasons unbeknownst to me, as is usually the case with writer's block. So in my spare time (yeah right, like I've been busy!) I began exploring the wonders of PhotoShop. Now the application is nothing new to me as I use it on most of the pictures I post with my hubs to draw the ohhs and ahhs from you that the text can't. But this time, I took a time out from hubbing - I can't even write a decent comment - and actually read the manual. But I didn't go far and deep. Instead, I glossed over the basic stuff, ie layering, effects etc., and immediately started working on some pictures. It was a study of how trial and error makes perfect.
Below are some of the products of my imagination and of course PhotoShop. The images were inspired by some of my favourite hubbers whose avatars appear in the image above, of what I know (or at least of what I think I know) about them. I hope you'll like the wallpapers I made for them. But I yearnthat they would, too!
By the way, the, umm, poem above is proof that writer's block is still keepimg me company. God, get it out of here! Okay, fine, give me carpal tunnel syndrome instead!
,
for Uriel
In our exchanges on my "hentai" hub, I learned that Uriel is a big bleach (anime title) fan and she's all about Kon.
.
.
.
for sheenarobins
Working mom, coffeeholic, true blue Marlboro Woman and now missing in action (most of the time anyway). Hey sheena, I stole the motto you wrote on your hub profile page!
.
.
.
for G-Ma Johnson
A mother and her daughter on a boat, a serene and magical landscape - all things that remind me of G-Ma's writing. I think I deserve a big big hug and a big big lurve for this one!
.
.
.
for Randy Behavior
About the birds and the bees this one is but definitely postgraduate. I hope this is incendiary enough to go side by side with her ooh la la poetry and prose.
.
.
.
for sandy
Sandy's gift of poetry is her wings. She uses them to take flight and soar. But I wish she'd go for the moon and absorb all its light.
.
.
.
for Ginn Navarre
If you've read Ginn's hubs, then you know what this wallpaper is about. If you have not, go read one now and be transported to the past in all its nostalgic beauty, when the world was much much younger than today.
.
.
.
for Teresa McGurk
This is my way of thanking Teresa for all those wonderful lessons in literature. I have never enjoyed Shakespeare as much as I do everytime she blesses us with a hub about the bard or any other literary greats.
.
NEW ADDITIONS - 6/21/09
.
for Shadesbreath
In the comments below, Shadesbreath said he wanted a Keira Knightley walllpaper. So as he requested, here's one that I made for him. Though I'm not sure if this is the kind of image of Keira Knightley that he has in mind, I hope he'll like the Vlad-inspired theme just the same.
.
.
.
ADDED - 6/22/09
.
for R. Blue
For saying that I will never be obsolete (see comments below) - he gets a wallpaper! LOL The theme is something that defines the man - classic but contemporary (with a healthy dose of skin!)
.
.
.
for a special hubber ftiend
Your request :D
.
.
.
ADDED - 6/23/09
.
for ripplemaker
A rose blooms in the ruins... When you read ripplemaker's hubs, you would start to believe that, yes, there's hope yet. And that good still exists.

Bless you Cris - you have more of these writer's block moments and you'll have us all in tears all the time. I am so touched! Photoshop or not, your hubs are always so artistic!
These are all awesome Chris! I take off my hat and bow to you, Lord of Photoshop. ;)
Well honored Cris!!! You are the purveyor of awesomness!
The one for G-Ma Johnson looks like a Monet!
Awww... you sweet thing you ..:O) as tears run down my face...That is such a loving picture and a wonderful job on all that you did...
(I have photoshop...care to give me a few lessons)???
You truly are special to me...Love you soooo much...:O)BIG BIG Hugs G-Ma
I am just beaming! Thank you so much Cris. There is a poem hiding in that picture, if I find it I'll use this as the photo. o.k.?
If you could see my grin you would blush.
Randy, I can see you grin way up the coast!!!
Wow that is great stuff, Chris, and really personalized. Great choices of Hubbers, too.
Very good Chris. I have CS3 but like you I am toooo busy (lol) to figure it all out... Maybe a break from the forums will help. Anyway, you have a real talent for this.
-sigh- What else can I say? I totally was not expecting this. Cris...thank you so much. I was so sullen today, then, decided to 'hub' and found this. You are so darling. The images here, are so perfect for each of the ladies you profiled here. There is poetry in this...as it is in everything you do.
-hugs-
This is neat. I got photoshop. I think I will show it to my son and let him play with it.
Keep on hubbing
*gulp* gee, dear Cris -- what a beautiful hub. Your artwork is always so elegant. I'm glad that HubPages is a venue for art as well as words (tho' I liked your little poem, too!). You really take joy in making others feel special, don't you? and that is a skill I admire and would like to possess. Thank you.
P.S. the wallpaper is on my desktop. Lurve it!
You may have writers block, but you are still bursting with creativity. Beautiful pics in a wonderful tribute to great hubbers.
Sir, this is amazing. I'm in awe. I want photoshop.
I really don't know what to say. I wasn't expecting this, that's for sure. Wow.
I think we gals make great stamps for one. I'd buy them, wouldn't you? You've got some of my ultimate faves on here too which is way way cool (feeling special). How perfect each wallpaper is. Wow. I really really don't know what to say. I'm going to have to come back in a bit. Thanks, man. Wow. I put my wallpaper up before I even commented by the way. Sorry I'm in a bit of shock. I'll be back. Hopefully not saying wow every time I open my darn mouth. =D
You certainly know how to get the best from photoshop
Chris you do have the knack of surprising us again and again with your creativity...and thoughtfulness! Lovely stuff. :)
Frieda - he had me babbling too - hey, wait a sec - that sounds like you!
I've just grabbed a box of tissues ro sniff my way through this
'wow' hub again - thanks Cris!
they are all pretty but i like the ones for randy behavior and ginn navarre
Wow, this is so beautiful, Cris! I have Photoshop but haven't been creative. Guess, I am going to have to read the manual but doubt I can be as talented as you are. Lovely hub !
Cris, you are THE artiste in this joint! Not that I wish to bestow more writer's block on you, amigo, but if this is what we get "in exchange", well then... Besos!
Nice job Cris! Of course, I'm a little partial to the Old Hollywood one myself--but they're all great! I really like the one with the little girl in red-I think that's my second fave :D
Such a clever man. Thanks Cris, they're beautiful.
Great stuff. I like the one for Uriel the best.
I love the ghostly image of the little girl.
Cris - I'm going with AIDY's. I love that one. That's the kind of art I go for ... oils and texture on a stretched canvas.
I think I have photoshop somewhere but avoid such software because it's always in Portuguese and I can't alter the default language. It's on my list of 'things to learn' though spanish guitar is a little higher up.
Wonderful collection Cris :)
I love AIDY's one. It's oxymoronic; gothic yet soooo beautiful!
You are so creative! I really liked these. :D
These are great Cris. I'm sure everyone has their favorite. Mine was Sandy's. That's cool! (It was a little disconcerting to see half my body in the Randy wallpaper - I thought I had gotten all those removed from the Internet.)
I am in tears. You are the best, Cris. Thanks much. You have no idea how glad I am to be part of this hub. So that's why you have nice pictures on your hub. Yeah, I've been missing in action most of the time. I'm working two jobs now. I work for the Godfather now full time and there's the blogging and marketing with the website we're creating, 3hrs a day and on weekends. I'd be back to school (homestudy) next week, finishing a degree in Customs Admin. I told you that you'd be the first to know when I get rich, right. Almost there, Cris. Slowly, my dreams are coming true and I am excited about it.
These are really good. You've really made your Photoshop sing. Beautiful work. Makes me want to fire up Photoshop and learn it as quite a few others have said. Got to feel good to know your work is not just a joy to look at, but truly an inspiration. Seriously well done. /salute
Lemme know when you start busting out Jennifer Connely and Keira Knightley ones and I'll sign up for your wallpaper club. lol
The one for AW is really cool.
Enjoying seeing your many talents. Seems like a good use of your time when the more wordy creativity is taking a nap.
I love these, they are brilliant! I love playing with Photoshop but usually I don't have enough patience to do something well. Jealous much :P
It's no suprise to me, because I seen talents in you that you don't even know yet---see how they just pop-out, that's why I fuss at you sometimes and love you to piece's
Photoshop looks like great fun - but did this hub cure your writer's block ?? Hope so, I miss reading you.
Wow...some really wonderful photoshop effects there Cris. I am sure all those you have 'immortalized' are still sniffing into tissues.
Shalini by the way means, modest.
I loved Gin Navarre's.
Cris....I've used photoshop for years in my work......and still only know just a few basics.....but what fun. It's such a deep application that you could study it for years and still not know it all. It's not about what you don't know though....it's about what great things you can do with what you do know.....and you just made some nice art with what you know. I'm sure writers block is just a temporary bump in the road for you.
Frieda.....I believe you can use your own images and print stamps with them....only problem these days is that I believe stamps are going the way of the yellow pages.....obsolete....who do you mail anything to anymore. Hey cris....Think about this and you should be able to write a hub or two. E-mail has cut way into the stamp business....and Google has almost made the yellow pages obsolete.....but Cris will never be obsolete.
I'd be honored!! Truly.
Omg you know, each one you did fitted the Hubber to a tee. You are pretty astute aren't you Cris? Gee I tell you what it really makes me want to go play with mine now...in fact I am going to play with it right now....you have lured the artist in me in full throttle. Thumbs up!!!! (hugs)
BP...remember the photo of you I photoshopped. When you're through playing with yours...can I play with it next?
Nah Cris....I'm strictly amateur compared to Deb....I've been telling her lately she reminds me of Lucille Ball....of I Love Lucy fame. We were attempting to have a conversation on Skype a few days ago.....as usual Deb had forgotten to plug in her mic.....so she could hear me ...but could only type messages back at me. The next thing I see is that she had gotten her hair tangled in the mic cord.....well I started laughing...I could just see her wrestling with the mic cord as she got more and more tangled......and she did....we never got to talk and she had to get someone to come over and extricate her from the mic cord......and she wasn't even trying to be funny.
CRIS!!! cry baby???!!! I might be bad but I ain't no crybaby :D
Diana - thanks for explanation - I try hard to live up to my name - I did say 'try'!
DUDE, that is soooooooooo f-ing awesome. You HAVE to send me the file so I don't have to stretch the little one so much.
Cris the one you did for Shadesbreath is beautiful!
Great new additions Cris - you never cease to amaze! and just when one thinks it can't get any better.....
Isn't Photoshop fun? :D
I have a few that I've done over the years on this hub: http://hubpages.com/hub/Making-Desktop-Wallpapers-
Haven't done any for a long time, I need to get back to it!
I just happened on to your hub, Chris... I'm just so busy I haven't been reading or writing much lately at all. Just hanging out on the forums, lol.
But! These are seriously, seriously good. I mean, get a gallery show, dude. Can you do it? And I'm not just being nice, either.
Here's a writing challenge Cris - on another site we have a Short Story Generator. On the 1st of each month a character, a setting and a situation/conflict are randomly produced. Although I initially called the group "Short Story" Generator - this was a bit short-sighted of me. "Writer's Inspiration" or "Inspiration Generator" would have been better.
Here are some ideas to use the prompts :
* A poem (sonnet, haiku, ballad, elegy, epic ..... )
* A 'Tweet' story - ie: limited to 140 characters
* A 100 word story
* A short story of inderteminate length
* A short play
* A short film script
* A full-length film script
* A letter
* A fairy story
* A journalistic report
* A factual article
* A novel
* A chapter
The 3 prompts for June are :
Character : dark skinned womanSetting : near waterSituation/conflict : lurking shark
Now, these were thrown out randomly - and I thought them a bit corny at first. But that is what the generator gave me and I had to accept them. They don't have to be used word-for-word, implication is often enough - ie: hey can be used metaphorically or figuratively.
One poem that has been written on the VFTree implies that sharks are pre-cancerous cells; in a story there is an actual shark and in another story the shark is a person (a loan shark).
Also, it might be that a piece needs only the inspiration provided by one of these prompts - it doesn't matter if the others are dumped.
There well be 3 new prompts on July 1st.
Go on - have a go - these are challenging prompts ... but with your fertile imagination lordy knows what will happen.
I really like these, you have worked well .......... I like the postage stamps
I'M back in action now, been missing 3 days..... glad you noticed anyway
sleep well
Cris...you nailed me as well....I love the Classic/Contemporary theme.....and that image of Blondepoet standing in the shell is awesome.
This is just fun as hell to follow along with.
BP on the half shell!! Perfect!
w0ah! this hub morphs into something more beautiful with each passing day. Cris, great work!
Blue which photo was that I forget? Ooooo it wasn't a bad one was it, haha, haven't you got one to play with? Oh alas and alack !!!! When was I in a shell?? ROFL. No idea!! Imagine I could have been attached to the headset for days if he had not come. It was truly caught in the slit near the ear piece, my hair wrapped around 6 times Hahah. Well at least I never sat on them like the time before. Oh my!!!
Chris- It is amatuerish as graphic design--maybe... But not as collage/paintings. I am completely serious.
Very creative Cris and they make me want to read up on these hubbers to see why you chose the different themes!
LMAO Cris you are so right. You are so astute I think you would give marinealways24 a run for his money
I have two legs
I lose my sunglasses often only to discover they are on my head
I think CrisA could make some really big bucks in his life writing if he wanted to.
I like picking peel on backs when they get sunburnt
I am a woman
ROFL xo
This is beautiful Cris, You have so much artistic talent in you! I take back what I said in my hub about Prince Charming! You are so above Prince Charming. I sure am glad that I have had the priveledge to see your works of art and call you friend. Thanks for the beautiful imagery. :-)
LOL, It may be true that we both do what we like to do, the difference is that yours turns out as beautiful and touching pieces of art. Mine turns out to be controversial and seems to anger many :-)
aw the new one is groovy..... the flowers are nice and the colour of the wings, you will be tired of doing these soon, but they are lovely, do they take a long time...
BP....what a keen grasp of the obvious....except when you're looking for your sunglasses or remembering to plug in the mic.
Cris.....yep funny funny woman!!
It wasn't necessarily a request, dont put yourself under any pressure, write a poem if it is easier..................
have you got lots of work writing all the time, you could not have writers block in that case could you? Have you heard of an online magazine called k9. it's an internet magazine, they have just published 2 articles of mine in same magazine..... I wrote the articles a while ago, but just got word today they are in maga\ine..... i am so happy
Ooooh, you beat me to it! darn.... These photoshop pics are great. I have a few favorites. I have writers block and I got addicted to my Nintendo DSi because I can manipulate the pictures. I imagine photoshop is more difficult. Now, I can't do it because you did it. This is a fun hub. :)
Hi CrisA, you are one creative person. :-) Yoohooo! Lovely... Hmmm I should request a photoshop from you too. Will you make me one please??? hehe
o.k. I will have anything that is going...... put a picture up on my new hub.... I am making progress............
[ Ripplemaker sneaks in quietly to check what CrisA has in store for her. And gasps audibly. She is quiet for a very long time. She does that a lot when she is speechless... ]
Cris, you made me teary eyed and you've inspired me a lot. I thank you...deeply.
These are pretty good. I like to play with filters on my pics when I get bored. PS is such an awesome program.
Cris I see you've been at it again....more nice work.....you've become the unofficial PS artist for all hubdom. I feel so honored to have made the cut.....kinda like being picked in grade school when it came to playing ball.
This is so darn yummy and creative hub Cris... You never stop to amaze me :) I think the emptiness you fell in gave you yet another idea out of nowhere.... Have a nice empty day :)
Wow, these are some great wallpapers. Thanks for taking the time to create them and sharing them with us. I love them all!
Wow! These are not ordinary wallpapers, Cris! I love all of them. I wish I had the time to explore PhotoShop too. But my demanding work, especially this time, gives me very little time for hubbing. As always, thank you for these lovely wallpapers.
Cris, trying to write a poem for my wallpaper has given me writers block! I now have 6 unfinished poems floating around my desk top. WTF.
Seriously Cris what could i say ?? I can't believe it! You are so great with that photoshop of yours...Man... I really had a mouthful of WOW oh and ouch great while viewing the pictures but now have Silence instead. You always bring up something new! Uh that is so cooool! Breath taking!
You know what i hate you man!! Seriously, i mean now i live on Hubpages and i go like an addict checking your new hubs and reading them... Facebook doesnt count neither msn nothing uhh. I mean next year is a huge step for me how am i supposed to live without having extra time for reading and checking out your new hubs every now and then...ugh man! This is so addicting... I am a hubaholic and i am proud of it!
thats ubber cool check out www.playandsearch.com & www.dldirectory.com
My daughter had photoshop on the computer, not realizing what a cool program it could be I deleted it (housecleaning to make the computer go faster?) once she left to go to college. Hey I didn't know...seeing the great stuff you created I now know I messed u.
great hub
regards Zsuzsy
I am beginning to wonder what you would make on my wallpaper
Beautiful work Chris. Particularly liked Ripplemaker, Shadesbreath and Artisan Walker - and McGurk's is stunning. Great hub! I'll come take PS lessons from you - just got PS3, lol.
Hey! It's Kon from Bleach! That's the perfect wallpaper for Uriel.I love how you managed to match up the wallpapers with each hubbers personalities!
I just thought of this wallpaper for GT http://www.smashingmagazine.com/images/wallpapers-
Your welcome, now where's my wallpaper?! LOL
Phew .......... when my little book of poems came out long ago there was a little girl with a teddy depicted as me by the artist that illustrated it..... I have grown up now I get Cat Stevens instead thankyou so much for your kindness, it is truly lovely.......
CrisA I am completely lost here, I have been trying to look up tutorials on how to be creative with photo-shop. I end up on some site which is not easy to follow. Where would you recommend to go to learn some good techniques? I would be most grateful.... :)
Deb.....I'lll be right over to give you a few tips. Photoshop for dummies might help.....not that you're a dummy.....just saying.....don't think they make a photoshop for blondes.
Cool stuff! Ooops...second to last pic....blue ball...blue ball...flag...flag! Just kidding :). Hey...where's mine? I like sexy squirrels...hint...hint...LYM! :)
Wow. This is really neat! I have that Botticelli on the wall at my office. I am laughing to myself thinking how my customers would react to see yours instead. You have a very vivid imagination. What a wonderful asset!
Cris....LOL.....LOL! It is perfect! It's like you jumped in my brain and took a pic. Already got it on the desktop....it will be there forever. Thanks a million! LYM! :)
Great new wallpapers. Glad I came back for a peak.
Chris just checking back for your new creations.
Mate. Just awesome.:-) Keep up the good work.
Yes Chris as 'they' say practice makes perfect.
not sure if they're all in chronological order but they appear to get better as you scroll down the page. nice stuff.
nice good looking pict. hope this hub will be exposed to hundreds of people.
My god! How have I missed your work all this time? I am moved by your compositions and humbled by your raw talent. Really I don't even have a compliment that's sufficient.
Thank you for sharing your work. Please know I mean it sincerely when I say Wow! Beautiful!
Pretty cool idea. When I can't write I tend to turn to photoshop too (that and DAZ Studio). I can't draw to save my life so when I want to express my creativity in a visual medium I tend to pick wallpapers. Which is really strange to me. Of all the things I could do, why desktop wallpapers? The majority of them I can't post because they involve copy-written pictures, and yet I still enjoy the heck out of it.
These are extremely cool Cris. Damn, I'm jealous, both of you and the hubbers you so skillfully created this art for. Very inspiring, thanks for sharing')
Amazing artwork, Cris - not that I wish writers' block on you at all but if this is what you do in those times, well WOW!
lovely hub forgot about this one, it truly is beautiful
Hi Cris! You were my first fan on hubpages when I joined two years ago :) Just wanted to drop in. I love reading your creative material! It's right up my aile ;)
My favorite one is Shadesbreath; so awe-inspiring.
Gorgeous! I love all of them, but I especially love the ones for sandy and Ginn.
Those are beautiful Cris;) I love the romantic themes, very sensual and beautiful! Hugs
Rest In Peace, i enjoyed reading all this again..... The Good Old Days.

I want photoshop!!!........always wondered what an and eagle and a kiwi would like together...geeze a fat furry butt and piercing eyes.....I definately must morph into something else. Id love to be a photographer more than a writer most days too.
Sleep ,candy, ( or drug of choice) walking in a forest, talkiing to strangers, food ,laughter , all good 'helps' for zapping writers block.....and look out world when ya do !!...
Kia Kaha stay strong
Kia Manawa stay determined~ Enjoyed your Hub.
